About Wagtail
I groomed at a chain pet store for eight years before I opened Wagtail in 2017, in a former vet clinic on Route 96 in Victor. It came with twelve kennel runs, so a year later we started boarding, and we’ve added six more runs since.
There are six of us now: four in the grooming room and two who run boarding and day care. Between us we groom about a hundred dogs a week, and plenty of them have been coming since they were puppies.

What owners say
Our rescue shakes at the sight of clippers. They booked her first thing in the morning, went slowly and called me halfway through to say how she was doing.
Walked in on a Saturday for a nail trim and was back in the car in ten minutes. My lab won’t let me near his paws, and he sat still for them.
Our goldendoodle finally came home with the cut I asked for. Kelsey looked at the photo I brought, asked two questions and matched it.
Ten nights at Wagtail while we were in Florida. A photo every evening, and Biscuit came home calm and clean.
Day care three days a week for a year now, and it’s the only thing that tires out our husky. I just wish they stayed open past six on Fridays.
Questions about grooming and boarding
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks for a groom. For boarding over a holiday, a month or more: Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks fill first.
What do you charge?
Grooming goes by size, from $45 for a small dog’s bath to $125 for a giant breed’s full groom. Boarding is $52 a night and day care $36 a day.
Do you need vaccination records?
Yes, for every dog, grooming included. Ask your vet to email them to woof@wagtail.example, and we’ll text you before one runs out.
How do you handle a nervous animal?
We book nervous dogs first thing, when the salon is quiet, and stop for breaks whenever they need one. If a dog is too upset to finish, we call you and charge only for what’s done.
What should I bring?
For grooming, just your dog on a leash. For boarding, food portioned by meal, any medication in its labeled bottle, and a toy or a T-shirt that smells like home.
Do you take walk-ins?
For nail trims, yes, Monday to Saturday. Baths and haircuts are by appointment.
My dog is matted. Can you brush it out?
Light tangles, yes. Mats tight to the skin are kinder to clip short, and we’ll call before we do. Dematting is $15 for each 15 minutes.
